Dr. Ghavimi is an Advocate, Scholar, Professional, Innovator, Competent and Amiable Digestive Disease and Digestive Disorder Specialist which believes in innovation for a competent and compassionate care for all her patients. Dr. Ghavimi joined Cedar Valley Digestive Health Center after serving as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Marshall University for 3 years.
Dr. Ghavimi believes in innovations for advancing medicine, paramount patient compassionate care and shared decision making - spending time with patients to develop diagnostic and treatment plans based on clinical evidence that appropriately balance risks with expected outcomes and align with patient preferences and values. Dr. Ghavimi uses an evidence based patient centered care approach for each of her patients and is current with new clinical and therapeutic interventions for all digestive diseases.

Dr. Ghavimi is very much interested in finding a cure for cancers of Pancreas, Colon, Rectum, Liver, Stomach and has spends the last 15 years studying both transnational and clinical medical education. Dr. Ghavimi focuses on advancement of care of her patient's Digestive Diseases via microbiome research, Motility and esophageal disorders, molecular diagnostic cancer screening, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Bowel Prep education, CRC screening, Health Disparities, advocating, and collaborating with other bright minds in the field of Gastroenterology to find novel therapeutic interventions for her patients whom live in Cedar Valley area.
Dr. Ghavimi is an avid advocate for policy change regarding bills and laws that have life saving and impactful change to how medications, telemedicine and medical education should be improved in order for all patients and all gastroenterologist benefit from. She is also an avid Colorectal Cancer Screening Awareness public figure both at her clinical and on social media platforms. She truly is involved in both education of of her patients regarding the importance of Colon Cancer Prevention, Colon Cancer Screening and she emphasizes the incorporation of the new CRC Screening guidelines into her daily practice. She has appeared on local media and national social media stages talking, educating, advocating and speaking about the importance of CRC Screening and health insurance coverage for the new age of CRC screening. She has strong grass root advocacy which she continues on developing and making it stronger by following the guidance of American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Ghavimi was honored due to her hard work, strong belief in Screening for Colorectal Cancer and advocacy for Colorectal Cancer Awareness and received a Proclamation from the Hon. Jim Justice, Governor of the Great State of West Virginia: "Declaring March 2022 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Week".
Dr. Ghavimi was chosen for the 2022 IBD Preceptorship Program for Gastroenterologist by University of Chicago. Her passion to learn a more in depth knowledge of Inflammatory Bowel Disease for her patients, got her chosen to participate in this program where she learned valued and continued her medical education as a precptee by learning from Nations greatest minds in IBD and University of Chicago IBD center of Excellence.
Dr. Ghavimi was honored to receive the 2021 SCOPY Award from the American College of Physician at ACG2021. She is a fierce Colon Cancer screening and awareness advocate. She is a very well known and passionate advocate for rural health, rural colorectal cancer screening, rural colorectal cancer awareness and rurality of health disparities.
Dr. Ghavimi was honored to be appointed to serves on the Committee of Women in GI - For the American College of Gastroenterology (2021 to 2024). She cares very much for the care of her female patients Gastroenterological and Hepatological disorders, along with mentoring and training the next best generation of Women in Gastroenterology.
Dr. Ghavimi being as collaborative in field of digestive health research was Awarded the Presidential Poster Award - at ACG Annual Scientific meeting 2021 in Las Vegas "AL-Hillan et al"
In July 2021 Dr. Ghavimi was appointed Social Media Advisor and serves as a Junior Editorial Board Member of Hepatoma Research (2021 to 2023).
In March 2021 - She won an award-prize for her advocacy from ASGE for the National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (NCRCAM).
In June 2020 - Dr. Ghavimi was awarded the Hero Physician Award from Rutgers University for her strong work and patient care during the COVID-19 Pandemic as she was training as a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellow.
Dr. Ghavimi while she was training at her residency institution was involved with a team of bright scientists whom discovered a panel of Novel Genetic Mutations: Targeted sequencing revealed distinctive and pathogenic mutations in African Americans with colorectal cancer. Dr. Shima Ghavimi completed her Internal Medicine training at Howard University Hospital and Howard University. She specialized in the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where she learned to be a compassionate and competent Gastroenterologist for her patients. At Howard University she was trained by NIH, Naval Academy Veteran Affairs' and served on the Medical Reserves. She also learned about health disparities, equity, policy changing and advocating at the Capitol for the paramount patient care.
Dr. Ghavimi completed her fellowship training in Gastroenterology at our nation's best liver transplant center at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and has experience treating early and advanced liver disease including fatty liver disease, NAFLD-(NASH), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and cirrhosis. Her interests include motility disorders of the esophagus and the anorectal, both of which can be investigated using a safe and minimally invasive procedure known as high resolution manometry. She is also skilled in Bravo, Baarx, FLIP PanoMetry and is passionate about keeping up tp date with current IBD treatment and Guidelines.

Dr. Shima Ghavimi has won numerous travel prizes and travel awards from ACG, ASGE, ANMS, AGA and AASLD-CLDF to attend and gain hands on experience in latest technology and medical knowledge in order to enhance her patient care.
Dr. Ghavimi has served as reviewer, editor and also judge for prestigious medical journals such as American Gastroenterology Journal "Red Journal", E.TC Gastroenterology, HepatomaResearch and Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology. She has served as a Judge several times at Howard University School of Medicine Research Week in Washington, DC.
In 2019 Dr. Ghavimi was elected to GI fellow board advisors for the chronic liver foundation - CLDF.

Dr. Ghavimi is from Canada and married, she is a mother of a wonderful son, she loves cooking, gardening, watching movies with friends and going outdoors with her family.
